Haslam Prioritises Safer Streets and Stronger Accountability for the EP
MEDIA RELEASE
Date: 26 February 2026
Independent candidate for Flinders, Craig Haslam, has today outlined his commitment to restoring community safety across the electorate, with a plan focused on transparency, prevention and local solutions.
“Across the Eyre Peninsula, people are worried about safety, at home, at work and in public spaces,” Mr Haslam said.
“Residents and businesses are frustrated by break-ins, shoplifting, drug and alcohol-related harm and family violence. Just as concerning is the lack of clear information about what’s being done and whether it’s working.”
Mr Haslam said the community is fed up and calling for practical action, not slogans.
“People want to feel safe. They want solutions that actually work. If I’m elected, I will stand up for greater transparency and accountability to address crime and anti-social behaviour in our communities.”
Mr Haslam’s approach centres on early intervention, stronger local partnerships and clear public reporting.
“I want to see the establishment of legislated Local Safety Boards in high-need communities such as Port Lincoln and Ceduna, with direct funding and clear authority to act.
“These boards would bring together residents, Traditional Owners, youth representatives, police, councils, schools, businesses and service providers to coordinate practical responses on the ground,” he said. “The focus must be on youth futures, not youth offending.”
Mr Haslam will also push for a Regional Safety Report Card to provide transparent, publicly accessible data on crime trends, prevention initiatives and service outcomes.
“Communities deserve to know what’s changing, what’s working, and where the government must do better,” he said.
“Safer streets and stronger accountability go hand in hand. We can restore community confidence — but only if we work together and commit to real, measurable action.”
